Into The Fold

Dior Homme designer Kris Van Assche has made his particular brand of loose tailoring his trademark at the label, and recent collections have explored the ins, outs, and undersides of the atelier’s craftsmanship. It takes center stage—make that center screen—in Enfold/Unfold, a new short film Belgian photographer Willy Vanderperre created with Van Assche to spotlight Dior’s Fall 2011 collection. Shot at the Tennis Club de Paris, where the collection was shown, the short contrasts the softness of the clothing with the architecture of the set and and the venue. The film officially premieres tomorrow in Paris in honor of Fashion’s Night Out, when it will also go on www.diorhomme.com; here, Style.com offers an exclusive first look.

karl lagerfeld’s bear necessities

The 128-year-old German toy company Steiff has always been known for haute toys; this season the creator of the jointed teddy bear has gone literal by creating the brand’s first “haute couture” bear in the image of…Karl Lagerfeld. The plush alpaca bear is dressed by—and in homage to—the man himself, in K Karl Lagerfeld lacquered jeans, a wool jacket, a high-collar poplin shirt and black silk tie, and signature eyewear. A limited run of 2,500 models has just arrived in exclusive boutiques worldwide, including Colette in Paris and Neiman Marcus in the U.S., as well as at www.steiff.com. The price? $1,500.

Americans Abroad: A Proenza Schouler Pitti Update

Lazaro Hernandez made a solo appearance at Il Buco today to discuss the label’s upcoming Pitti W show. The designer and his Proenza Schouler partner, Jack McCollough (who’s nursing a broken nose after the alleged Kiefer Sutherland head-butting incident), will present their Resort collection at a sixteenth-century Medici villa in Florence on June 18, but don’t expect a catwalk. “Two runways a year are enough for us,” said Hernandez. Instead, the pair has been working with Yvonne Force Villareal’s Art Production Fund to create a fashion experience, in which they’ve invited three U.S. artists to react to their clothes. In addition to a performance by the Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, there will be an installation by eighties master Haim Steinbach and a video guest-starring Chloë Sevigny and Liya Kebede, among others, directed by Kalup Linzy. Excited about showing abroad for the first time, the designers want to fly the flag a bit: “We want to bring an American sensibility to Italy,” said Hernandez.

LACMA Presents ‘The Unmasking’ – Kim Kardashian In Georges Hobeika

I wasn’t going to feature Kim Kardashian, but on reflection I have to give credit when credit is due.

The Reality TV star wore a breath-taking red Georges Hobeika gown to the LACMA “The Unmasking’ Of Resnick Pavilion Opening Gala in LA this weekend.

Her stunning gown with gathered details and a double shoulder strap hugs her gorgeous curves giving her a perfect hourglass silhouette.

A classic updo and trademark smokey eyes complete the look.

Angela Yeung Wing In Valentino – 2011 Chinese Huabiao Film Awards

Angela Yeung Wing aka Angelababy looked gorgeous as she took to the red carpet for the 2011 Chinese Huabiao Film Awards in Beijing, China this weekend.

The actress looked graceful wearing a Valentino Fall 2011 gown.

Her spectacular lace gown has fine polka dot details through-out plus an oversized bow at the waist.

Angelababy added a fun element to her sophisticated look by carrying a grey feathered clutch.

A chic bun and silver drop earrings completed her look.

2009 Grammy Awards – Best Dressed

Best Dressed Award
Pretty pink strapless gowns seem to be the order of the day. First worn by Freida Pinto at the BAFTAs, now this gorgeous pink Basil Soda gown has been worn by Katy Perry.

The structure of the gown is exquisite, as I have come to appreciate from Lebanese designers.

The satin ruffle piece on the front of the gown doesn’t bother me, the retro hair fits the look, the pink lips are simply divine, and the subtle Jacob & Co jewels don’t over cook this look.

Most Unexpected Award
When I saw Jennifer Hudson arrive on the red carpet wearing a colour-block RM by Roland Mouret Trenet high neck dress I must admit I was very shocked.

If there was a line of 100 dresses, I would have picked this last for her, but she more than does it justice – and this is not any kind of sympathy vote.

This really is a statement dress, with 3 tones including a white high neck bodice, a grey contrast pleated peplum around the waist, and a dark navy pencil skirt.

Thankfully the hair is pulled back to show off the dress, and her blue suede shoes are Christian Louboutin Declic Suede Pumps. I personally would have preferred a strappy sandal.

Best One-Shouldered Dress Award
Zooey Deschanel stepped out of the box, and tried something new with this cute lilac Luella Spring 2009 dress.

There is much going on with the chiffon layer, the floral appliqué on the shoulder, and the skirt with the draped detail, but this does not overwhelm Zooey.

She wears this dress very confidently, and it suits her kooky style.

The lilac tights I like, the black peep-toes I don’t like.

Best Strapless & Ruffles Award
Sara Bareilles also wore a pink strapless dress from the Luisa Beccaria Spring 2009 collection. It’s so angelic, and I love the red accents.

She completes her look with a Daniel Swarovski silver clutch.

Most Improved Award
After her Cavalli dress at the Pre-Grammy party, Miley Cyrus couldn’t get any worst.

I was pleasantly surprised in her choice of this charming Hervé Léger by Max Azria Fall 2008 asymmetrical gown, and I loved her hairstyle too.

Miley seemed very calm on the red carpet. No over-the-top poses, no obnoxious comments. I was very impressed by her maturity.

What No Bling? Award
Miley’s new BFF Taylor Swift, love for embellished dress was replaced by this Kaufman Franco black jersey gown, with wrap around patent leather strapping.

Continues To Be One To Watch Award
Kim Kardashian’s white/silver Toni Maticevski Spring 2009 dress was very cute, sassy and not at all trashy choice.

I love the organza detailing, which gives the dress a lot of shape and definition.

She worked her look with a pair of silver Christian Louboutin Fortuna slingbacks.

Best Use of Colour Award
I love a burst of colour on the red carpet, and Letoya Luckett certain provide it, with her fuchsia pink mini dress, multi-coloured snake-skin clutch and baby blue pumps.

Best Asymmetrical Gown Award
Looking a lot less bronze than she did the day before, Sheryl Crow looked amazing wearing a water-mix blue Toni Maticevski gown.

I love the slightly ruched bodice.

Golden Girl Award
Carrie Underwood glowed on the red carpet in a gold beaded tulle slip gown from the Zuhair Murad Resort 2009 collection, which she wore with a matching golden Nancy Gonzalez clutch.

I knew she could not stay away from this type of look for long.

It Should Not Have Worked, But It Did Award
Janelle Monae’s equestrian themed look was very charming.

I especially loved the white high collared pleated blouse.

Better With The Coat On Award
Anna Wintour was styling Adele for this event, so there were high hopes.

The Barbara Tfank LBD was nice enough, but I loved the look with the green coat.

Best Colour Block Award
LeAnn Rimes’ Philosophy Spring 2009 dress is so cute, I have to own it.

I love the cerulean blue top half, the heavily embellished waist, and the chiffon khaki skirt. Such a young and fresh look for the singer.

Best Re-Run Award
Iman has already worn this Rachel Roy Spring 2009 strapless dress, which had a embellished bodice and a tulip skirt. Jennifer Nettles wears it equally well.

Just OK Award
Apart from the Princess Leia hair style Audrina Patridge looks nice enough wearing a teal Tadashi strapless column gown with pleated bodice.

The Hills star walked the carpet Hans Solo.

Olivia Wilde In Tom Ford – “Cowboys & Aliens” Berlin Premiere

Olivia Wilde joined co-stars Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig on the red carpet for the “Cowboys & Aliens” Berlin Premiere in Germany last night.

The House’ star wore a Tom Ford Fall 2011 dress.

Her figure-hugging dress with a split neckline, shoulder pads and structured details on the bodice was paired with black Brian Atwood pumps.

Surely this fitted dress would been more appropriate for her photocall during the 64th Festival del Film di Locarno in Switzerland, and she should’ve worn her Gucci gown to this premiere.

The other baffling thing is that Julianne Moore wore this same dress just a little over a week ago when she made a guest appearance on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman.’

Olivia tried to add some spark to her look by styling her hair into a bunched ponytail, but the weave she’s used to create the look is a totally different colour to her natural hair colour.

Carrera y Carrera gold jewelry including stud earrings, a bangle and a gold statement ring completed her look.

I tried to find at least one positive, but from the rats tail to the re-run dress there is nothing I like about this look.

Olivia continues to slide for me.

HANHART – Primus Diver

The Primus Diver from Hanhart is in tune with its time. Nevertheless references to the brand’s past are not lacking. These include its famous red pushpiece one of the brand’s identifying features since 1939 designed to make the chronograph more user-friendly for fighter pilots the fluted bezel and the bi-composite dial. The 2011 version of the Primus Diver is clean and cool in its black ADLC-treated case.

Ginnifer Goodwin In Chanel – Chanel and Charles Finch Pre-Oscar Dinner

Prior to attending the Vanity Fair Oscar Party on Sunday, Ginnifer Goodwin took to the red carpet for Chanel’s annual Pre-Oscar dinner party co-hosted by Charles Finch at Madeo in Beverly Hills, California, on Saturday evening.

She donned a Chanel Resort 2012 look.

Her cute ensemble featured a short-sleeve blouse with a ruffled bib and black shorts.

Never one to keep things simple, she added a bubblegum pink Chanel quilted bag, a Chanel jewelled hairband, and Sergio Rossi ‘Song’ embellished sandals.

Even if you think she overdid it with the accessories, you have to admit that the red lip colour is divine.

Rihanna In Jean Paul Gaultier – Barnes & Noble Book Signing

Rihanna was at the 5th Avenue Barnes & Noble bookstore in New York City yesterday to meet her fans and sign copies of her new book “Rihanna: Rihanna”.

The book is packed with behind the scenes photos from RiRi’s “Last Girl On Earth” world tour.

I love her floral Jean Paul Gaultier dress which she paired with nude Christian Louboutin heels.

It a refreshing change from all the crazy street style looks she usually give us.

I think she toned down her look because she was aware that she would be meeting many young fans.

As much as I’m still not 100% loving the red hair, I love the way she’s styled it.

I have a feeling this will be a marmite dress. You’ll either love it or hate it.

What say you?
