Celebrities Love…Chloé Aurore Duffle Bag

Alexa Chung, Rachel Bilson and Jessica Alba have all fallen for the Chloé Aurore duffle bag.

The classic and sophisticated caramel leather bag gave their ‘off-duty’ ensembles a luxe update.

Alexa carried her bag to the Chloe Spring 2011 presentation in Paris whilst wearing Valentino heels.

Rachel styled her bag with comfortable shearling boots, a Topshop cape, Paige denim jeans and a striped top.

Jessica was out in LA toting her bag whilst wearing a Diane von Furstenberg red riding long coat, skinny jeans and grey boots.

Australian Fashion Week | Romance Was Born

ROMANCE WAS BORN
Australian Fashion Week, April 30

THE fashion pack was jolted awake yesterday by the iridescent colour and madness of the new collection from Sydney label Romance Was Born. Designers Luke Sales and Anna Plunkett – whose label was recently crowned Woolmark Designer of the year at L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival – chose the Sydney Theatre Company’s Wharf headquarters to unveil their Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Entitled “Doilies and Pearls, Oysters and Shells”, the clothes referenced the treasures of the ocean as well as grandma’s “pearls” of wisdom.

It started simply enough: a tight white skirt suit, albeit with shoulder pads attached to the outside of the jacket and skirt. It was followed by an oyster printed navy playsuit and a super-sheer camisole.

Then the madness took over. Throwing commercialism to the wind, Romance Was Born went full-throttle theatrical. There was red body paint, oversized floral headpieces, hair in nanna’s rollers and shell-encrusted stilettos. One has to wonder where, other than the stage on which it was shown, would one wear a mermaid costume? But then, maybe selling clothes is not the point.

Let It Schouler

“I used to know an old guy who was mostly blind, he kept a gun in the freezer, and breathed through a machine at night,” says Harmony Korine. The cult filmmaker goes on to tell a twisted tale involving goats, the woods, and young women being seduced by the older man—all part of the theme for his new four-minute short film, Snowballs, for Proenza Schouler. “When I was 13 I saw the old man turn into a goat and run around the living room,” says Korine. “I know it sounds strange, but it was real ’cause he licked my face.”For his second collaboration with Proenza (his last work was a short called Act da Fool), Korine injected the Southwestern elements from the Fall 2011 collection into his dark, perverse story. Snowballs screens tonight in Paris, but Style.com has the exclusive first look at stills from the short. To see the full film, check it out on ProenzaSchouler.com tonight.

India’s Next Top Model?

India’s modeling industry has given the world some notable exports, including Ujwalla Raut and Padma Lakshmi and most recently, Lakshmi Menon. After snagging starring roles in Givenchy and Hermès campaigns, Menon walked a full slate of top-tier shows at the Spring collections and posed for lensman Mario Testino in a recent issue of Paris Vogue. There’s a new girl, though, who might be the country’s next big thing: Kangana Dutta. Recently signed by IMG, she walked for Vivienne Westwood and Kris Van Assche and had a major editorial in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar, shot by Oliviero Toscani. As emerging markets become more and more important for luxury brands looking to meet their bottom lines, the trend toward increasingly diverse models starts to make sense. As Dutta says, “Indian women stand out, from the color of their skin to their features. Without us, fashion isn’t complete.”

Runway To “Broken Embraces” London Premiere – Penelope Cruz In Bottega Veneta

Red appears to be the colour of the week.

Georgina Chapman, Ciara, Ashley Roberts, and Meryl Streep have all worn this bold colour on the red carpet this week, and now we can add the beautiful Penelope Cruz to that list of scarlet women.

Penelope was in London for her “Broken Embraces” at Somerset House last night. and she looked outstanding wearing a red Bottega Veneta Resort 2010 suit with Bottega Veneta Fall 2009 wedges which had a cut-out detail in the heel.

The colour was beautiful against her glowing skin.  I don’t think many can pull off a red suit.

I like the way she turned up the pants and kept the jewelry to a minimum.

I wouldn’t have looked twice at the runway look, but Penelope would’ve made me break my neck to get a second glance.

Yes I’m gushing as I love her here.

New York Week Front Row

Lela Rose

Kellie Pickler started off very slow this Fashion Week, but she has now got into her stride and is looking fabulous.

Her best look of the week so far, came at the Lela Rose show, were she wore a taffeta teal Lela Rose Spring 2009 dress.

The detail on the bodice is exquisite.

Jennifer Love Hewitt paired a gold Lela Rose neckline embellished dress, with a navy cardi.

Her cute look was completed with a pair of nude Christian Louboutin pumps.

Brittany Snow looked cute in her Lela Rose Spring 2009 ensemble. I love the detail on the skirt, and the collar on the haltered top.

Diane Von Furstenberg

Heidi Klum’s multi-coloured striped shimmering Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2009 dress, which she paired with a large striped belt was gorgeous, but I am so tired of YSL Trib Two’s worn with everything.

Zoe Saldana opted for a white Diane von Furstenberg Pre-Fall 2009 dress with a watercolour floral print. Her silver heels were outstanding.

I would have expected a brighter colour from Katharine McPhee, but she opted for a black and white Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2009 tunic dress.

Donna Karan

Mary Alice Stephenson wore a LBD, but made it more interesting with a large statement necklace, a snake skin clutch and a fur collared coat.

Molly Sims looked stunning wearing a black one-shoulder Donna Karan dress with a gold statement necklace and a black Nancy Gonzalez clutch.

Preen

Roisin Murphy wore a sexy Preen Spring 2009 LBD, with a funky ‘do, then she pores cold water over the whole look by wearing a cardigan.

Reem Acra

Sophia Bush wore a rich two-toned purple Reem Acra dress, from the Fall 2008 collection, which were worn with YSL Trib Two’s.

Lily Collins opted for a lace frock, with gold heels.

Naeem Khan Fall 2010

Fall 2010 Fashion Week is my 3rd season and of all the shows I’ve attended, I’ve never seen a standing ovation were EVERYONE was on their feet.

This is what happened at the Naeem Khan Fall 2010 presentation yesterday – and it was well deserved.

Taylor Swift, Emily Blunt, Carrie Underwood and Beyonce Knowles are going to lose their minds like I did when they see this heavily embellished collection.

I loved the rock and roll feel of this collection from studded biker jackets, to the models punky hairstyles to the rock classic by AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and the Rolling Stones which played in the background.

Some of the models were so heavily embellished it was more like they were wearing jewelry rather than stunning dresses.

My favourites were the long sleeved silver tunic dress and the lightly feathered gown.

This was most definitely my favourite presentation of fashion week.

Here’s the finale, which also includes Khan’s standing ovation and an interview with Brooke Shields who was gushing at how much she loved the presentation.

Salma Hayek In Alexander McQueen – 2010 Doha Tribeca Film Festival

Last night in Qatar, Salma Hayek attended the opening ceremony for the 2010 Doha Tribeca Film Festival.

The actress opted for yet another Alexander McQueen look, this time from the Resort 2011 collection.

I love the drama of the dress, yet at the same time I’m not that excited about it on Salma.

That’s mostly because the skirt has lost it’s zing.

I’m sure it must be impossible to keep the structure on a dress like this when you’re sitting in a car or seated for a premiere, but it makes me lose excitement for a look like this.

I also loved the leather belt on the runway, but Salma opted out of this because she had to contain the twins by reducing the plunge on this dress.

An Alexander McQueen clutch, Boucheron jewels and black Sergio Rossi heels completed her look.

“Extract” LA Premiere

“Extract” is a comedy that stars Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, and Ben Affleck, which is about the struggles one man has to run an extract company – sounds hilarious.

Star of the movie Mila Kunis walked the red carpet wearing a Matthew Williamson printed brocade dress from the designers Fall 2009 collection, which I added to my favourites this week.

The cream, grey and mint green brocade shimmering dress has a pleated wrap-over sweetheart neckline, with a playful print.

A loose updo, nude heels and a stack of silver bracelets worn further up the arm completed the look.

Jessica Stroup who walks the red carpet with such style and grace, as if she’s been doing it for years, hit another high note wearing a gold and black metallic Notte by Marchesa Fall 2009 t-shirt dress with Emporio Armani black suede zipper booties accented with a gold trim.

This is a cute look without being too matchy-matchy.

Joseph Altuzarra and Peter Hidalgo Share A Star

There was small talk in at least three languages at the mid-morning cocktail hour preceding Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Awards luncheon today, but Bellini, apparently, translates—good thing, since the fashion talent being honored hails from locales as far as Iran (Nima Taherzadeh), Australia (Michael Angel), and Nepal (Prabal Gurung). Fellow nominees Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs registered on the low end of the nerves spectrum before the ceremony—mostly, it seemed, due to social shell shock. “We’ve been working all week on the collection, and coming to an event like this in the middle of the day is surreal,” Cushnie said. “It’s a treat just to get out of the studio.”Following lunch, keynote speaker Nina Garcia nursed a sore throat but reminisced about getting her start as an intern at Perry Ellis for a certain designer who showed a certain grunge collection. “Be your boldest, most out-of-the-box self,” she advised the gathered designers, counsel her one-time boss would undoubtedly second. Linda Fargo and Francisco Costa shared the podium to announce the winner of the womenswear award—luckily, as it turned out, since Costa almost missed the second name on the card. Joseph Altuzurra and Peter Hidalgo took home joint honors, a recognition that left Hidalgo visibly stunned. “It’s a very strange sensation,” he admitted. “I am somehow more nervous now.” For his part, Altuzarra was thinking about the clothes. “We’re moving away from the seventies,” he said of his next collection. “But it’s the same woman—very strong.” Hey, if it ain’t broke…
