Erin Heatherton, Lindsay Ellingson and Toni Garrn attended the Victoria’s Secret ‘Love Is Heavenly’ Fragrance Launch at Victoria’s Secret in Soho on Tuesday.

The VS Angels looked lovely once again, this time all wearing dresses from the Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Spring 2012 collection.

Erin opted for a beautiful blue floral-print chiffon dress with mint-green sandals.

Lindsay’s equally summery cream floral-print dress was teamed with lavender peep-toes and Toni opted for a beige dress with an art-deco print which she teamed with bi-colour sandals.

The Angels must have a new stylist. This new style direction is much more relatable.

America Ferrera was the first to give this Alice + Olivia Tessa asymmetrical dress a red carpet outing, when she attended the “The Illusionist” premiere during the 2010 Edinburgh Film Festival last month in Scotland.

She paired her black dress with snake skin Giuseppe Zanotti heels and a dazzling engagement ring.

Actress Maria Menounos wore the same dress to the OMEGA Constellation VIP Dinner in LA.

She paired her dress with the same Camilla Skovgaard collar sandals we’ve seen her wear once before.

Both look amazing. It’s almost impossible to choose, but I have to go with America as I prefer the dress belted despite preferring the dress in white.

Consider old people. Easy for me as I am one. Setting age aside let us then consider people who after a lifetime have achieved a certain situation and who must now learn how to communicate with the next generations.

The very least we can hope from a lifetime of work is that it should bring experience hamilton replica and that this experience forges “knowledge” which ideally goes beyond human and working relations to become wisdom. When we talk about tradition – and what better guardians of tradition than old people – we tend to forget that what is now “classic” was once innovative; something becomes a “classic” precisely because someone foresaw the strength of its concept its values odm watches and the potential for renewal it contained and which set new boundaries. This is why tradition and innovation are not opposites but rather two essential aspects of a single development. And this is also why old people aren't stick-in-the-muds but in many instances more open to change than a lot of young people who fear the unknown. Old people have lived through so much change that they know what its true implications are. Here we have step one in establishing a dialogue between old and young: to understand the value of experience and know how to build from it.

We stereotype the elderly as judging more often than not criticising the present and idealising the “good old days.” I urge us all to combat this cliché and remember the blind prophet Tiresias. Old people might sometimes be more “blind” than the young odm mens watches with regard to technology for example but likely they have developed the ability to envisage future scenarios with far greater precision; a foremost quality when developing strategies.

It’s official Gucci have taken over Cannes Film Festival this year.

They threw a party yesterday with Vanity Fair honoring Martin Scorsese with many fabulous ladies attending – in Gucci of course.

Jennifer Lopez wore a one-of-a-kind pale grey one shoulder silk Gucci dress with pleated organza and georgette ruffle detail on the shoulder.

Her look was paired with Jimmy Choo ‘Mercury’ silver sandals.

I would’ve liked to have seen her in something more fitted.

Her host Frida Giannini wore one of my favourite dresses of this event.

She wore a self designed a one-of-a-kind Gucci grey halterneck dress with cutaway shoulder neckline, metal beaded embroidery and mirrored geometric stone detailed neckline.

Lea Seydoux has come a long way from her first red Cannes red carpet appearance at the Robin Hood premiere.

I love her in this one-of-a-kind strapless dark green pleated chiffon Gucci gown with horizontal drape detail on the bust and empire waistline.

Definitely one to watch.

Salma Hayek continues to wear nothing but Gucci during Cannes Film Festival, as she opted for a one-of-a-kind bronze paillette Gucci cap sleeved dress with a deep v-neck to show of her famous assets.

Naomi Watts opted for a sexy Gucci black sequined dress with an open back.

Camilla Belle shows why she is at Cannes Film Festival – to look pretty.

The actress was beyond gorgeous opting for a one-of-a-kind off the shoulder Gucci dress encrusted with gunmetal Swarovski stones, beads and sequins.

Gucci grey was obviously the colour of the night.

The actress looked very statuesque wearing this gold v-neck pleated dress which she teamed with a black clutch, gold pointy pumps and a black belt with a gold accent.

At the 2011 British Fashion Awards last night, Tali Lennox wore the same dress.

The model, and daughter of Annie Lennox, opted to go sans accessories.

Barely-there makeup and a half-up, half-down bouffant completed her look.

Even though I’m not crazy about Joely’s shoes, I love the rest of her accessories.

If feels like she put more effort into the look so she wins for me.

Red appears to be the colour of the moment as Diane Kruger looked exquisite on the red carpet for the “Inglourious Basterds” Sydney Premiere today wearing a one shoulder silk draped Marchesa Resort 2010 dress.

The German model-turned-actress lent some much-needed glamour to the occasion pairing her dress with Christian Louboutin sparkling heels.

The dress appears to be shorten from the runway version, which I really suits her and shows off her toned legs.

Her hair was swept to one-side and the make up was kept very light. No red lipstick as I would’ve expected.

Diane was immaculately groomed making her 2 for 2 on the Best Dressed of The Week list and it’s only Monday afternoon.

Where was Brad? He was seen out with Angelina and the kids in LA treating them to McDonalds.

Prefer The Runway Dress Award
All eyes would’ve been on Cheryl Cole at the 2010 Glamour Women Of The Year Awards which was held in London last night.

Not only did she win the “Woman of the Year” Award, but she also looked gorgeous wearing a nude lingerie-inspired Julien Macdonald Fall 2010 dress with a flowing train.

As much as I loved Cheryl in her custom-made dress – which is very much suited to her – I find the runway version more interesting.

The nude and black is more dramatic than the nude and dove grey, it really commands your attention.

I do like how Chezza accessorized her dress with a sparkling grey VBH clutch and Jimmy Choo Quinze embellished booties which celebrities love.

This is a great look for Cheryl, but I wasn’t crazy about her hair.

Vintage appeal… Clare Press in her Oxford Street boutique. Photo: Tamara Dean

Traditional stores are turning to new tactics in a bid to compete with the online fashion phenomenon, writes Natasha Silva-Jelly.

Blame it on the global financial crisis, the rise of the mega-mall, the online shopping revolution or our sky-high dollar but the boutique retail sector is suffering. Clothing and footwear sales declined 4.8 per cent in the year to December and a stroll down any of Sydney’s once-burgeoning shopping precincts will reveal a stream of sale signs and, worse, empty stores.

In the latest twist, retailers have resorted to charging try-on fees in store, which are refunded upon purchase, to stop consumers heading online to search for the same item at a lower price.

Besieged by the new world of e-commerce, it is no longer enough for traditional bricks-and-mortar stores to fill their racks and then wait for the customers to roll in.

                                    Advertisement: Story continues below

Robby Ingham’s store in Paddington. Photo: Tamara Dean

”E-commerce is growing at an exponential rate,” says Katherine Milesi, a partner at Deloitte’s Online Practice, which delivers and implements digital strategies for a number of fashion retailers. Speaking at an e-tail seminar in Melbourne last month, Milesi described the internet shopping boom as ”the black swan Australia did not see coming”.

But she believes high-street retailers can coexist happily with the new digital platform. The key to success, Milesi says, is to ensure they differentiate what they provide and the way they provide it.

”Our advice is to create a multi-channel offering where the store, internet and social networking go hand in hand,” she says.

Belinda Seper hosts special events to draw shoppers. Photo: Tamara Dean

”Retailers could encourage customers to go online to browse and then insist they pick up in-store. Or provide an online kiosk inside the store where shoppers can view extended ranges that they can only order online.”

Forced to employ such strategies, niche boutiques and single-brand retailers are becoming increasingly creative about ways to lure consumers away from the keyboard.

”I love having a store because I have an old-fashioned sensibility,” says Sydney designer Clare Press, who opened her Mrs. Press vintage-inspired store on Paddington’s Oxford Street nine months ago. ”I love the traditional shopping experience, a delicious environment, boutique rather than mass, special treatment and a sensory hit that you can’t get online. But as a designer with one store, we have become a destination so you have to work hard as customers are no longer going to walk past and buy a dress on a whim.”

When customers do enter, the fact Press’s work studio is above her store means she is on hand to offer personalised service. She has also created an inviting sensory environment: the boutique smells of magnolia candles and is kitted out like a 1920s boudoir, complete with a black spiral staircase and a gold-velvet theatre chair, and is brimming with vintage treasures collected over the past decade.

”Our clients describe the store as being very European and the decor is all part of the experience,” Press says.

So are the regular salon shows (the most recent to launch the latest racing collection by milliner Suzy O’Rourke), champagne and macaroon shopping nights for VIPs, trend talks by fashion media and a style blog written by Press, a former features director for Vogue Australia.

Also sharpening up their service and rethinking their offering are our well-known luxury fashion retailers, which now find themselves pitted against hugely popular online sites net-a-porter.com and shopbop.com.

”We haven’t changed our philosophy, we don’t sell online, but we have changed the way we market to clients,” says Sydney retail veteran Robby Ingham. ”We have a blog, we email and now we text [customers] the same day new stock arrives.”

Ingham’s high-end Paddington boutique is home to labels such as Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang and Givenchy and has been a Sydney shopping hot spot for 28 years.

”Service has always been at the heart of our business,” he says. ”Going in-store allows you to feel the garment, see the proper colour and fit and bring it back if something goes wrong. We can also do alterations and offer advice on how to maintain pieces.”

Trawling the globe to unearth new and unique labels that suit the Sydney market and regularly changing the mix to keep the offering interesting is core to the sales strategy, as is extensive refurbishment of the store last year to ”refresh the brand and remind customers we’re here”.

”We also have designer meet-and-greets and give our VIPs early notice when a new collection arrives and offer pre-selling,” Ingham says. ”The internet is not going away and as long as international sites are not taxed like an Australian business, they will always have a 20 per cent advantage.”

But the web is ”also a fantastic medium to find out about new labels and keep up with the latest fashion blogs, so you have to go with it”.

The chain of Belinda and The Corner Shop boutiques owned by Belinda Seper in Sydney and Melbourne will soon enter the online shopping space.

But for now the focus remains on enticing customers into the stores via film and fashion nights, photography exhibitions, personal stylists on hand and at-home wardrobe overhaul sessions, should you require the store to come to you.

Seper also employs one-off initiatives such as a tea salon that has been set up at The Corner Shop boutique in Paddington this month, along with VIP launches to showcase new designers, most recently Britain’s Erdem and Christopher Kane.

On the more affordable high street, Sportsgirl is one of the best examples of a retailer that is embracing e-commerce but also updating its bricks-and-mortar stores. Sportsgirl offers a buzzing in-store environment, trendy staff, a dizzying array of well-merchandised racks and a specialised vintage section. It also has services including ”chill out” rooms and ”style me” studios where shoppers can indulge in a one-on-one styling session that is difficult to replicate in cyberspace.

But the long-established chain store has certainly given it a try: the Sportsgirl website features global style reports, a section to learn about Sportsgirl events in your area, regular competitions and blogs and even Sportsgirl TV.

Together, the stores and the website offer a whole-of-brand experience that constitutes an ideal meeting of in-store and online.

Salma Hayek was the first to wear this pearl Stella McCartney silk asymmetrical gown, with a beaded detail on the shoulder, when she attended an The Art Of Elysium event during November.

The actress wore her dress, with very questionable headgear.

We saw Amanda Seyfried grace the red carpet on Sunday at the Golden Globe Awards wearing the same gown, which she complimented with a Daniel Swarovski clutch.

As much as I love Salma, this gown suits Amanda’s milky complexion better.

I am sure you will not be surprised to know that this dress is now sold-out on Net-A-Porter.com.
